yiddish vs hebrew alphabet | Differbetween
Yiddish is written in the Hebrew alphabet, but its orthography differs significantly from that of Hebrew. Whereas, in Hebrew, many vowels are represented only optionally by diacritical marks called niqqud, Yiddish uses letters to represent all vowels.
Can Hebrew speakers understand Yiddish?Hebrew is partially mutually intelligible with Aramaic. But Hebrew and Yiddish are not related at all, other than the fact that Yiddish has loan words from Hebrew (pronounced so differently, that Hebrew speakers may not even recognize them).
