Verizon iPad 2 (iPad 2 CDMA Model) and AT&T iPad 2 (iPad 2 GSM Model) are the new iPads released by Apple in Q1 2011. They run Apple iOS 4.3 and all the features are same. They are built with A5 processor which is 1GHz Dual-core A9 Application processor based on ARM architecture, The new A5 processor’s clock speed is twice as faster than A4 and 9 times better on graphics while the power consumption remains same. Both the iPad 2 are 33% thinner and 15% lighter than first generation iPad while the display is same as in the previous model, both are 9.7″ LED back-lit LCD displays with 1024×768 pixel resolution and use the IPS techology. The battery life is also same for both, you can use it up to 10 hrs continuously.
The additional features in iPad 2 are the dual cameras – rare camera with gyro and 720p video camcorder, front facing camera with FaceTime for video conferencing, a new software PhotoBooth, HDMI compatible up to 1080p HD video play – can connect to HDTV via Apple Digital AV adapter, and two applications introduced – improved iMovie and GarageBand making it as a small musical instrument.
Both Verizon iPad 2 and AT&T iPad 2 have access to the same Apps store and all the applications can be used on both devices
The only difference between them is Verizon iPad 2 is configured for 3G- CDMA network while AT&T iPad 2 is configured for 3G-UMTS/HSPA network. Both iPads are compatible for Wi-Fi connectivity. The iPad 2 you buy from Verizon will not work on AT&T network and vice versa. In other words the iPad 2 GSM model will not support Verizon network which is CDMA network and iPad 2 CDMA model will not support AT&T network, which is HSPA network.
iPad 2 also comes as Wi-Fi only model. So you have to be careful in purchasing, you have to choose the model that corresponds to your carrier. Or if you are going to use it only within the Wi-Fi enabled area, you can but Wi-Fi only model.
