Onions are oval from the bottom and are often called bulb shapes. The bulb part of the Onions is partially outside while the rest of the bulb part is dug in the sand. The top part of the Onions contains a green soft stick-like structure. That green part is called spring and is used in making salads. Sometimes when Onions are in their initial stage of growth, they are taken out, and those Onions are called spring onions.

Shallots are subsets of Onions, or we can say that they belong to the family of Onions. Shallots are smaller in size as compared to Onions and are also bitter, but after cooking, Shallots become sweet. Shallots have a good shape, that is why they are mostly preferred for making dishes or salads more attractive and also they can be easily melted into a syrup.

Shallots are planted during the springtime as they need both moistures as well as sunlight. The soil in which it is planted should be very fertile with proper moisture in it. Like Onions, they also have the green part in their top, which is edible, but they do not have a pungent smell like Onions have. They may have a more bitter taste, but it depends on their growth stage.
