Methodist vs Baptist

Methodist and Baptist are different groups of Christian believers that have much commonality. Both have the same beliefs in God and the bible with baptism and communion as fundamental sacraments and acceptance of Jesus as Christ and savior.

Methodist

A Methodist belief affirms Christianity belief in the Holy Trinity. It also understands the consubstantial humanity and divinity of Jesus. Methodists study the bible and embrace God’s role in everything that exists and wait for the consummation of God’s reign. Baptism and Holy Communion are the sacraments they recognize, although they know that there are other “means of grace” but are not considered as dominical sacraments.

Baptist

Baptist religion has a congregational governance system that gives independence to individual local Baptist churches. That is why some doctrines and beliefs vary among Baptists. But generally, they are evangelical in doctrine. They believe in one God, His death and resurrection, the virgin birth, the Holy Trinity, the Second Coming. Baptism and Holy Communion are their sacraments.

Difference between Methodist and Baptist

Methodist and Baptist may have a lot in common, but the major difference between them lies in the baptism itself. Methodists baptize people of all ages: infants, adults, and youth. They use immersion, pouring and sprinkling as a method in baptizing. Baptists baptize only the confessing youth and adult and baptizes only through immersion. Another difference is that Methodists offer communion to all people, while only the baptized members are allowed to receive communion in the Baptist faith. Baptists have their own independent congregations and have their own pastors while Methodist congregations are assigned with pastors by bishops after consultation. It is only in Methodism that women are ordained as pastors.

Methodist and Baptist share essentially the same doctrines of faith but are especially uniquely in certain areas. Certain beliefs may be absurd for the other to consider, they still have one purpose for its existence and that is to recognize God as the one and only God and teach it to the world.
