Mental vs Emotional

Mental and Emotional are two types of behavior of human beings that show some differences between them. Psychologists have been interested in comprehending the role of emotions and the human mind. According to them, it is important to know that people exhibit both mental and emotion behavior at different stages or phases of life. Mental behavior is more concerned with the mind, whereas emotional behavior is more concerned with the heart. This is the difference between the two types of behavior. Through this article, the key differences between the two words will be presented.

What is Mental?

Mental behavior is more concerned with the mind. Mental behavior changes due to the impact of the behavioral changes brought about by emotions. For example, an individual experiences the death of a close one. In such a situation, it is natural for the individual to be very emotional and depressed. However, if this depressed behavior exists for a longer period than what is considered as normal, this can be associated with symptoms of a mental disorder, such as depression. In such a case, a change in the human mind due to the activity of neurotransmitters can be expected.

A person who has undergone a mental transformation is different from a normal person. He might not be emotional at all, or else very emotional. Both these situations can be observed in such a person. The mental behavior displayed can differ from one individual to the other. This depends on the type of disorder and also the extent as well. Some can be very mild cases, where it is difficult to diagnosis, but in others they can be very severe conditions.

What is Emotional?

Emotional behavior is more concerned with the heart. This type of behavior is exhibited at the loss of the dear and near. It is often seen that emotional behavior paves the way for mental behavior as well. In other words, a person that exhibits a lot of emotional behavior develops a kind of change in his mental behavior as well. The psychology of mind is such that it is easily transformed by the impact of emotions unless it is properly controlled.

This is the reason practices such as Yoga are recommended to gain supreme control over the mind and its transformations. It is believed that the practice of Yoga controls the mind and stops the effect of emotional behavior on the mind. In fact, yogic practice exercises a sort of control over emotional behavior too. This truth is established in the Yoga Aphorisms of sage Patanjali.

Emotional behavior also results in the production of sounds from crying, lamenting and the like. However, in the case of mental behavior, it is not associated with the production of sounds arising out of crying, lamenting and the like. It just shows up in the mind, and the person who is affected mentally is calm and quiet. This is the difference between the two words.
