What is difference between AM and PM?
AM refers to before meridian, while PM to post meridian.
The term “meridian” derives from the Latin “meridiem“, which translates as noon; therefore AM is understood to be before noon and PM thereafter.
This division of time is not a thing of the present. The 12-hour clock was developed from the middle of the second millennium (BC).
During the last 4,000 years, the clock has been maintained in various ways, but it was from the sixteenth century that it acquired the appearance we know today.
Every day certainly starts at midnight, known as 00:00 on the 24-hour clock and as 12:00 AM on the 12-hour clock.
The second 12 hours of the cycle begin at 12:00 PM or twelve noons.
Therefore, from midnight to noon the time is written AM, while from noon to midnight it is PM.
The 12-hour cycle comes through day and night.
Historically, the first 12 hours occur during the day, where time was established based on the shadow of the sun.
The second part of the time was established taking into account the position of the moon and the stars.
